Why: On this day in 1887, the first gathering at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsatawney, PA, to wait for the groundhog’s shadow occurred. Seriously, if the anniversary of an event that occured at Gobbler’s Knob isn’t hash-worthy, I don’t know what is.

Notes: This is the Groundhog’s day hash, and since it’s Feb 2nd, two twos, everyone is encouraged to wear tutus!!

This year, the Thirstday Hash House Harriers are completely mailing it in to provide you with a truly forgettable hashing experience in celebration of the Great Thirstday Anthrax Spoof & Jimmy Hat Run. Working in conjunction with nobody in particular, the TH3 is embarassed to present one evening, three trails, and (at least) one botched naming.

Trail #1: The Ballbuster trail
Thursday, Dec 22, 2011 – 7pm HST
In the spirit of the r*cists at TH3, this will be a long, pavement-pounding trail with very few marks. Actually, there will be no marks at all. Just print out the map linked below and r*n the 7.5 miles. FRB on this trail will be acknowledged with the first slap slot of the evening.

Thursday, Dec 22, 2011 – 7pm HST
This 3-5 mile trail will feature checks, splits, a backcheck or two, a beer check, and (weather permitting) an outdoor circle. (Hashers on trails #1 and #3 will be notified of circle location at the appropriate time.)

Trial #3: The “Wanging it” trail
Thursday, Dec 22, 2011 – 7pm HST
You’ll probably want a few extra bucks in your pocket on this trail, as it involves sitting at the bar and drinking heavily while the rest of the pack is out getting lost and angry. Take special note that the Lockdown has 1/2 off all draft beers in honor of the Great Thirstday Anthrax Spoof & Jimmy Hat Run–but only on Thirstdays.

1. The Lockdown (1024 N Western Ave, http://www.lockdownbar.com/) is a heavy metal bar. With heavy metal concerts playing on the TVs. From bands like Anthrax. Get it?

2. Your hares for the evening will be Ass 2 Mouth and Wang Chunks.

3. The hares are eager to introduce any willing victims to the next bad idea in Chicago area hashing–the Bear Fight. Urban Dictionary has two entries for “Bear Fight”. Why: This one’s a little different than normal. From the hare “Wankers and Bimbos, I hope you’ve been diligently preparing your legs and your livers for the 2011 TH3 Beer Mile. On Thirstday, August 25th–in lieu of a “normal” hash–the pack will gather at Cal’s (400 S Wells) for a pre-lube before heading over to the Beer Mile course at 7:30pm.
The Beer Mile is the only timed event on the hash calendar. It start with drinking a regulation beer*. Then you run a 1/4 mile lap. Repeat this three times, and you’ve completed your Beer Mile. The one catch, though, is that anyone caught “refunding” any of their beer on the course will be required to run a penalty lap.
As an added bonus, all finishers of the 2011 TH3 Beer Mile will receive a personalized award. Additionally, special recognition will be given to the fastest wanker, the fastest bimbo, and the most glorious refund on trail.
You can find additional information about the Beer Mile at www.beermile.com. Please note that the TH3 rules vary slightly from what you’ll find on this site.
On-it’s-only-four-beers-on,
Wang Chunks
* A TH3 regulation beer is a can, at least 12 oz., with a standard opening. Cans may not be punctured in any way that was not factory designed (i.e., no shotgunning). Beers (or other alcoholic malted beverages) must be at least 5.0% ABV. TH3 will provide regulation beers, but competitors are allowed to increase the level of difficulty. Want to do a Guinness beer mile with their big cans? You may BYO.”
